Amy Marcy Cheney Beach, 1867-1944, United States
Amy Beach was an American composer of the early twentieth century who was fortunate to be able to focus on composing for her whole life. She earned a lot of respect and enjoyed popularity during her lifetime, was able to have most of her works published, and helped pave the way for other women composers to have large compositions performed by major orchestras. Beach is perhaps the greatest American woman composer.
